The holiday gaming season is now in full-stride and excited as you should be for the likes of Dishonored, Assassin's Creed III, Halo 4, etc, it's fairly easy to skip over something like the Baldur's Gate II: Redux mod. What's this mod, you say? Why don't we let the project director, Lorne Ledger take you on a 10-minute video tour? We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Baldur's Gate II: Redux mod video walkthrough
Having already thrown in thousands of hours of work, the team behind this mod is small and are composing it completely free of charge. Of course, since they're making nothing from it, the mod is going to take some time before everything is fully realized. If you've seen the video already, then you're likely hoping that day will come sooner rather than later.
In the walkthrough, Ledger explains that the mod will be available to those who own Dragon Age: Origins and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. To avoid any cease and desist orders, they're also including software that will check for a copy of both games before you're allowed to install the mod. It won't act as diabolic DRM though, so cast those worries aside.
This is what happens when you piss off a dude who can cast angry magic.
It's amazing to see one of my favorite games of all-time being treated with such meticulous care and in a 3D engine, no less! One of the mod's opening cut-scenes, with infamous villain Jon Irenicus, is also currently making waves. Nostalgia or not, if this scene doesn't give you goosebumps - I don't know what to tell you. Personally, I can't wait to see what the game will look like when finally complete.

While the mod is being taken with a 'when it's done' approach, Ledger is optimistic that we could see it sometime in the later part of next year. Before you head over, here's a few screenshots of their hard work in action:
